Muffin Man
Oh, do you know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man?
Oh do you know the muffin man,
Who lives in Drury Lane.

*Song Box Addition - Make a song card by drawing an outline of a muffin onto poster board. Cut the muffin out and print the title and lyrics of the song on the card. Cover with clear Con-Tact® paper and add to your song box.

* In the Beginning - Place an apple, tomato, milk , cheese and oranges in a box with a lid. Set out small bowls with applesauce, ketchup, orange juice, and peanut butter. Talk about the foods: What are they? What do the smell like? How do they taste? Where do these foods come from? Open up your box. Can children guess which food came from the apple, etc.

Activity Time

*Spoon Puppets - Children can use markers, stickers, or an assortment of decorating items (buttons, sequins, mini pompoms, felt, etc.) to make a face on the convex side of the bowl of a spoon. Glue yarn for hair on the opposite side. Fold the fabric squares into quarters. Once folded, snip a small hole in the corner. Unfold the cloth and you should have a hole in the center of the cloth. Place the handle of the spoon through this hole. The right side of the fabric should be facing up towards the face. Tape the fabric in place around the neck of the puppet. To make the arms, twist a pipe cleaner around the wooden spoon, bending the ends so they hang down to each side. Loop each end to form the hands. Flip the fabric back down over the arms, and tie a ribbon beneath the arms (approximately 2") to create a waist. Once completed, children can place their hand under the puppet's clothes and hold onto the spoon handle to make their puppet move. Younger children may need your help with their puppet. Older children may want to make a collection of puppets.

Special

*Puppet Show - Put on some background music and let children put on a puppet show with their spoon puppets. To make a simple stage for the puppet show, hang a tension curtain rod across a doorway. Adjust the curtain to the height of the children performing the puppet show. This will make an inexpensive puppet theater that can easily be removed when not in use.
